Movie Review: Men In Black Trilogy

With the third Men In Black movie out and with me seeing it I figured why not throw my reviews of each movie up on here now.

Men In Black

__________________________________________________________

Fresh off of Independence Day Will Smith would go up against those up to no good aliens again in Men In Black. The difference is that this time it was meant to be much more fun.

This time around Will Smith plays a newbie to The Men In Black Earths first and final defense against any alien threat he is rechristened Agent J and is trained by one of one of the first and best agents of The Men In Black Agent K, played by Tommy Lee Jones.

The best word to sum up this movie is a simple one. "Fun". This movie manages to be over the top silly but still keeps itself grounded it the world that it fantastic world that it created.

The aliens look fantastic and are always fun no matter how outrageous they are the little baby alien that was born near the beginning is even kinda cute. Gags the the Jeebs who's head grows back whenever it is shot off only to complain about how much it stings and Frank the talking pug are all just great.

Vincent D'Onofrio plays Edgar the villainous alien bug is a great villain. Hes offbeat, goofy and only slightly threatening in his human form but at the end when he makes his transformation into the giant alien space bug he is suddenly very threatening but all throughout is awesome.

Men in Black is a damn fun movie and I give it a 8 out of 10.

Men In Black II

__________________________________________________________

After the great time that was had all throughout the first Men In Black you couldn't help but get excited about part II.

The first thing I wondered about was how would Agent K be worked back into the Men In Black. You knew they would introduce him back into the organization aside from the way that Agent J was brought in during the first one and now he would be the rookie. It was a fun idea but it was pretty much squashed right from the get go when he just gets his memory back from another machine that does the reverse of the memory wiper. After that it all went downhill.

Everything that was fun about the first movie from Frank the pug to the coffee loving bug aliens were all back but this time not as a quick one note joke but as a one note joke that was done over and over again to the point where not only was it not funny anymore but it was just sad.

On top of that the villain of this movie, Serleena played by Lara Fylnn Boyle was just so terrible that with that and the addition of the returning gags I just wanted the movie to end.

There was still some fun to be had throughout this movie but it was far outweighed by the negatives. I really hope that Men In Black III learns from the mistakes of this one. I give Men In Black II a 3 out of 10.

Men In Black 3

__________________________________________________________

Its been ten years but now we finally get a new Men In Black movie so with that long a gap between movies the question is, do we need a new one? Well probably not but hell with all the sequels to shitty movies coming out right and left why not go back to this series and put out a new one. At best we get a pretty good movie, at worse.... well can it really be worse then part 2?

So at the start of the movie we get back to the same old same old, Will Smith is the funny agent to Tommy Lee Jones straight man and yes it still works.

Its nice to see that they didn't go back to the well of Agent J knows a lot but is still a rookie who doesn't know squat next to the all knowing Agent K. Now Agent J is a very seasoned MIB agent, they go out of there way to say that he has been part of The Men In Black for the last 14 years so he knows his stuff by now, no more pretending that hes a rookie like in the last one in which he should of already had four years or so under his belt.

Will Smith is great in this role, it fits him like a glove and its nice to see him back on the big screen in a role that suits him really well. He can be his usual funny charming self with the smallest hint (the very smallest hint) of badass.

Tommy Lee Jones is just as good as Agent K in this movie as he was in the last two the big problem with him in this one however is that he isn't there for most of the movie since the majority of it occurs in the past.

Taking over the role from Tommy Lee Jones was Josh Brolin who played a much younger Agent K. Brolin is a great actor and this one had to be damn challenging for him since he had to pretty much play the same performance that Tommy Lee Jones has had to do down to his speech patterns which he did a flawless job with. Despite how good Brolin did in this movie I think it will most be a thankless job as people may just think that he was just doing Tommy Lee Jones, but it was so much more then that.

Unlike Men In Black II the third movie has a villain who feels like a credible threat again right from the get go with the pre-credits sequence. I wouldn't of thought that Jemaine Clement could of pulled off this role. There wasn't a whole lot of comedy in this role and in the time he spends on screen he comes off as a badass villain.

Overall Men In Black 3 is a welcome addition to the series that takes the long standing bad taste of Men In Black II that has been left in my mouth the last ten years out. I give Men In Black 3 a 7 out of 10.

Comic Cover of the Week: The Amazing Spider-Man Vol. 1 #316

Hey remember last week when I said that I was I was going to start doing a couple of weekly columns on the site to add more content, one about comic covers the other movie posters? Well here's the first of those this one is a comic cover so take note the Comic Cover of the Week feature will happen every Wednesday.  So lets just get at it shall we?

For the first Comic Cover of the Week I decided that I wanted to feature a cover that had my favorite comic book character, Spider-Man. After narrowing it down to that the choice just popped out to me. It would be the cover of The Amazing Spider-Man #316.

COMIC COVER OF THE WEEK STATS:
Comic: The Amazing Spider-Man #316
Characters Featured: Spider-Man & Venom
Artist: Todd McFarlane
Date of Publication: June 1989

So whats so special about this one? Well first off its a classic. Why is it a classic though? Well just look at it, its completely badass. When this comic first came out Venom was still a brand new character, this was only the second story to feature him and this cover gives you good reason to see why he is just so dangerous and why he would become such a big deal.

Venom is standing over Spider-Man and it looks like he has done what so many classic Spider-Man villains could never do and kill The Web Slinger. Spider-Man is lying prone on the ground in a pile of rubble and Venom has Spidey's blood on his hands. Is he just about to deliver the death blow or did he already do it?

For anyone who didn't know who Venom was at this early point in his creation then this cover would pretty much get anyone to pick up this issue to see just who he was. I was a prime example of that. I had always loved Spider-Man but had never read comics to much but when I saw this one in the store as first grader I was reeled in pretty damn quick. I begged my Mom to buy it for me at only $1.25 (Canadian) at the time it was well worth it to shut me up not only for that moment as it would turn out but for days. I had always watched the classic 1960's Spider-Man show like it was a religion but this character I had never seen before. How could that be? The closest I could think of who it could be was one of The Fly Twins, but the only real similarities between the two was the fact that the costume was black. Venom was a different beast altogether though and until The Fly Twins who only appeared in the series very briefly.

Spider-Man and The Fly Twins.

This cover has also stood the test of time as well. It is often on "Best Comic Cover Ever" lists and had seen its fair share of tributes. It was even been turned into an awesome statue which I would love to someday own.

Well that's about all I have to say about this awesome cover. See you again next week with another one.

New Content

Now that Bond-Tastic!! has gained over 10,000 hits, don't ask me how I have no idea, I have decided that this place needs new content and more of it. Aside from the articles or lists that I post about comics, wrestling or movies I have decided that maybe a couple of weekly features would be nice if for no other reason then to bridge the gap between posts because lets face it sometimes I do go longer then any of us would like before something new pops up.

So what weekly features? Well nothing big. I have designed them so that I can pretty much just pop them out in a very short amount of time. But the two things I have decided on so far are the following:

Comic Cover of the Week, its pretty self explanatory. I post the image of a comic cover be it a new one or a classic one and then pretty much say what I liked about it. Simple.

Movie Poster of the Week, pretty much the same idea for Comic Cover of the Week only this one will focus on a movie poster instead.

These two are all I have for now and I think for the time being unless I think up something else that it should be sufficient, lets face it, filler material between the real meat and potatoes stuff.

Also I was wondering if anyone out there who enjoys this blog enough and has that itch to write some of their own stuff just for the fun of it without getting paid (much like myself) would like to contribute to Bond-Tastic!! Just like myself you could write about just about anything you want but I would have to give the final approval on it as I would like it to stay in the same vein of what I write about but then lets face it I have written about a rather wide variety of topics here. So if anyone has any desire to contribute anything to Bond-Tastic!! just E-Mail me at theodore.bond99@yahoo.com.

So with that here's to the next 10,000 hits, thanks to all of you who have helped make that happen!

Electric Superman

Superman was having a hard time in the 1990's. He died, he came back with a mullet, he got married. It seems like DC did just about everything that they could to keep the man of steel relevant at the time and for the most part it didn't work. The biggest shock (no pun intended) though came when DC decided to strip away everything Superman was known for and pretty much start him over fresh. Naturally I'm talking about when he went electric.

Now right away we all knew this was destined to fail. Superman can't be electric, hes The Man Of Steel for crying out loud. Still though I guess you can't blame them for trying something right?

So for those of you who don't know DC abandoned Superman's old powers and look and gave him a bunch of new powers and a fresh coat of paint. With these new powers he could open portals to other dimensions, divide his consciousness into separate entities, absorb and translate energies from any form into any other, merge with computer and other electronic and electrical systems, control the forces of magnetism, and create a solid energy field, manipulate electrons, become invisible or intangible and teleport and finally visually detect the entire electromagnetic spectrum. Well they took away a shit ton of powers but they replaced them with a shit ton of new ones! On top of that he was no longer weak against kryptonite. There was a trade off though, now whenever Superman was Clark Kent he was just a regular powerless human.

The sales started off strong, of course they did this was Superman and it was something radically different, people had to check it out. Naturally however this couldn't last forever and before long Superman fans were calling for the man of electricity to go away and the man of steel to return and when the sales started to reflect this then the time came for a return to tradition. A storyline was cooked up were Toyman split Superman into two distinct Supermen, the blue superman that had been around since the change and a red one.

Both had the same powers but had slightly different personalities. I don't know a whole lot more on it but by the end both Blue and Red Supermen merged back together to bring back the traditional Superman of old, well if you consider the mullet traditional anyways, and they have never looked back since.

Here's the thing. I actually liked the electric Superman. Sure it couldn't last nor would I of wanted it to but I think that DC shouldn't of wasted so much time and energy on this new Superman, what they could of had out of this was a fantastic new character. I don't care what anyone says that costume was awesome, all they had to do was remove that "S" shield and there you go all new character with an amazing set of powers. He could of been big instead it was just used as another attempt to make people care about Superman in the 1990's.

Smackin' It Raw: The Top Ten Stories Of WWE

I don't know if any of you realized it or not but on last Saturday May 5th The WWE celebrated its 10th anniversary under that name. As we all know it had previously been WWF. I decided to sit back and think about the last ten years of the last ten years and here is what I came up with in my opinion.

#10 Muhammad Hassan's Terrorist Attack Against The Undertaker:

Unfortunately not all of these stories will be good ones and the first story is one of those less then bright spots. WWE has had a long history of villains that are very anti-American, look no further then Ivan Koloff, Nikolai Volkoff, The Iron Shiek and even Sgt. Slaughter during The Gulf War. It should of come to no ones surprise that after the September 11th attacks that before to long there would be an Afghan sympathizer. Enter Muhammad Hassan. This time WWE threw a very interesting twist on the old character though and made him American born and raised but after the September 11th attacks he was persecuted by his fellow American just because of his Arab background. It was an interesting twist that could of given him a great run if done properly but unfortunately WWE couldn't help themselves and just went to far with it. On the July 7th broadcast of Smackdown! which had been taped a couple of days earlier Hassan had sent a bunch of masked men to attack The Undertaker even going as far as to choke The Undertaker with a metal wire. The even more unfortunate thing about that was the date. July 7th 2002. For those of you who don't know that was the day that there were terrorist bombings on the trains and buses of London. There was no time to edit the segment or even remove it in time so to the horror of everyone on the same day of these terrorist attacks WWE Smackdown! Also featured a segment that included a terrorist attack. The backlash was instant. Muhammad Hassan was taken off of TV with UPN stating that they would never allow the character to be seen on their network again. Two weeks later at the Great American Bash PPV The Undertaker defeated Hassan by power bombing him through the stage and he was never seen again.

#9 The Death Of Eddie Guerrero:

Much like the first story the second one is also a sad one. Eddie Guerrero was no stranger to alcohol and drug abuse but in one of the best feel great stories in not only company but wrestling history Guerrero did what so many other wrestlers failed to do and defeated his demons. He was living and a clean life and enjoying everything that he hard worked his entire career to achieve. He was arguably the most popular wrestler on the roster and finally getting his recognized as one of the greatest wrestlers in the world and on February 15th of 2004 finally won the ultimate prize of the WWE championship from Brock Lesnar. Unfortunately the damage that years of alcohol and drug abuse finally caught up with him and he died in his hotel on November 13th 2005, leaving a legacy and “Eddie” chants that can still be heard to this day.

#8 CM Punk's Shoot Promo:

Finally a good story! Not only is this a good story but it is also the most recent story on the list. Despite a couple of Money In The Bank and WWE title wins CM Punk for the most part was being misused and he had had enough. With his contract set to expire last summer CM Punk did the unimaginable. After getting a WWE title shot against John Cena, Punk told the world that his contract was set to expire at The Money In The Bank PPV in which Cena would be defending his title against Punk and that he was not going to renew it. He would win the championship and walk out on WWE with it. As if that were not interesting enough the next week at the end of Raw Punk did something that was even more unimaginable. After his match he walked up the ramp and gave what would become known as “The promo” in which he aired all of his grievances with the company, many of which were shared by the fans themselves. It should of made Punk a huge villain going into the PPV against Cena but something funny happened. Every fan agreed with him. Overnight he went from being reviled to becoming the voice of the voiceless and made WWE more interesting then it had been in years. At The Money In The Bank PPV Punk and Cena wrestled win what would become match of the year which ended with Punk winning the title and as promised leaving WWE with it. Sure he showed up again two weeks later but that promo skyrocketed Punk to the main event of WWE. He wasn't see as a guy who was almost there anymore, he was a guy who was there and started to be treated as such.

#7 The Return And Demise Of ECW:

Nearly five years after closing its doors anytime something amazing happened in WWE, epically something including a weapon or a hardcore maneuver the chants of “ECW, ECW, ECW!” would always fill WWE arenas everywhere so on June 12th 2005 at the One Night Stand PPV WWE gave the fans what they wanted, a one time reunion show of all of their ECW favorites back in the ring for one last ECW show to give the company the resolution that it deserved. Or at least that was the intention. With the strong sales of The Rise and Fall of ECW DVD along with the very impressive buyrate of the PPV WWE decided to do it again one year later and not only would they do another One Night Stand PPV they would also bring ECW back as a third brand in WWE to air on Sci-Fi that would be a true companion to both Raw and Smackdown! Not long after the return of the weekly ECW show however it became quite apparent that it was a very watered down version of the company that we all loved. After only a few months the third brand became a joke with terrible ratings that had the fans begging for the end of ECW once and for all. On Febuary 16th 2010 WWE aired its final episode of ECW TV to make way for the next show that had great promise at the start only to fall even further then ECW ever did, that show being NXT which can still be enjoyed, or not, to this day.

#6 The Undertaker's Streak:

In 2002 The Undertakers Wrestlemania winning streak was a solid 10-0 after defeating Ric Flair. It was a very impressive accomplishment that had never been reached before to be sure but I think even at that point neither WWE or The Undertaker knew just how big The Streak would become. To be honest it wasn't until Wrestlemania XX the year The Undertaker went 12-0 after defeating Kane a second time that it would really hit its stride. That was the year The Undertaker had returned as The Dead Man after a couple of years as The American Badass. Still it would be another year before the streak would become the focal point of a feud going into Wrestlemania. For years it had been there and was a big deal but never had it been involved to the point it was at Wrestlemania 21. That was the year that The Undertaker faced off against a young Randy Orton, at that time The Legend Killer. Orton was poised more then anyone before him to end the streak and he had no problems saying that he would do so. Naturally Orton lost. The next three years were a wash for the streak storyline again with The Undertaker going up against Mark Henry in a casket match which was used for no other reason then to pad the stats of the streak since they wanted it to grow and had nothing else for The Undertaker that year. The next two years The Undertaker faced off against Batista and Edge respectively but those years despite the streak being on the line everything was more so built around the fact that they were both title matches. Then the next year at Wrestlemania XXV the streak became more important than any title that could be on the line when The Undertaker took on Shawn Michaels who vowed to end the streak. He failed but their match became an all time classic. The next year Michaels attempted to do it again this time with his own career on the line, once again he failed and went into retirement. At the next two Wrestlmanias Triple H took up the cause of trying to end the streak only to fail both times himself. At this point there is no need for a title to be on the line The Undertakers Wrestlemania winning streak is one of the biggest matches on the card and will most likely remain so for as long as The Undertaker wants to continue wrestling.

#5 WWE Goes PG:

During the late '90s and into the late '00s WWE had been TV14 but in July of 2008 to please its sponsors and to reach out to the younger demographic the WWE return to being PG for the first time since The Attitude Era. It is a move that has had long time fans who remember the days of The Attitude Era complaining ever since. Despite that and the fact that the ratings doesn't seem to reflect it the move back to PG has been a rousing success for the company who have expanded all of their division significantly and continues to do so.

#4 The Brand Extension:

Ok in all fairness the brand split happened a mere ten before WWF became WWE but aside from that ten days it was all as the company was WWE. It doesn't mean a whole lot these days with Raw Supershow and the Smackdown superstars appearing on both shows but when the brand split happened there was none of that. The only wrestlers that crossed over to the other shows were The Undisputed Champion and the Women's Champion. By six months in even that went out the window with both brands being completely separate from another and both having their own world champion. The only interaction between the two brands would be during the PPVs and after a while even the PPVs became separate with both Raw exclusive and Smackdown! exclusive PPVs. The most surprising thing about the brand split was the fact that after a while the shows even gained viewer loyalty with some fans only watching Raw and others only watching Smackdown! These days the brand split is still in effect but just barely. Its pretty much run its course with Smackdown! wrestlers appearing on Raw every week and Raw stars able to appear on Smackdown! every week if so desired. Its only a matter of time before it is done with altogether.

#3 WWE's Wellness Policy:

If there was ever a silver lining to come from the death of Eddie Guerrero it was WWE's Wellness Policy. With pressure mounting WWE put its own drug testing into effect meaning it would supposedly be the end of drug use in the WWE. At first it seemed very secretive on what would cause a violation of the policy but what was known was that if you fail one test your suspended for 30 days and second failure would result in a 60 day suspension and a third failure would result in getting fired. Its a lot more clear what its about these days and many wrestlers have been suspended over the years. It has for the most part been a great success though with many wrestlers being forced to live a cleaner lifestyle that will hopefully result in them living much longer then the generation of wrestlers that came before them. One of the greatest success stories of the policy came from MVP, Montel Vontavious Porter however who after doing the test discovered that he had Wolff-Parkinson-White Syndrome, a rare and potentially life threatening condition that causes the heart to beat faster then normal. Also under the Wellness Policy WWE has reached out to any former superstar that used to work for them to get treatment paid for in full by WWE to get cleaned up and turn their life around.

#2 The Rise Of John Cena:

Like him or not in the time of WWE John Cena has become the face of the company he is to WWE today what Steve Austin was in the 1990's and Hulk Hogan was in the 1980's. I don't have much more to say about this story on the list then that but I don't think anyone could doubt what Cena has meant to WWE and pretty much everything WWE related in the last ten years.

#1 The Chris Benoit Double Murder Suicide:

I really didn't want to end on a downer story on this list but lets face it there was nothing that effected WWE more in the last ten years then the tragic double murder/suicide that happened to Chris Benoit's family at his own hands. Benout was without a doubt one of the most respected wrestlers in the history of business that managed to climb to the top of the business after years of being told he couldn't. Then on the weekend of June 22nd to June 25th Chris Benoit flushed his legacy down the toilet for the legacy of a man who would murder his wife and seven-year-old son then kill himself. Benoit did more for WWE and the wrestling business more in that one weekend then he ever did in in the middle of the ring and tragically it was something that resulted in a black eye for the business and much more tragically the death of his wife and son.

Other Newsworthy items:

The Big Returns:

Wrestling fans have a great memory and what better way to exploit that then by bringing back as many top stars as possible. Sure this isn't a distint thing that has only occurred in the last 10 years so I didn't include it there. I just think its fun to throw out a few of the names that came back during this time that some thought we may never see in a WWE ring again, most notable Bret The Hitman Hart, The Rock and most recently Brock Lesnar.

The Big Exits:

Its not all about big returns though as some pretty noteworthy names have also said goodbye since WWE got the “F” out, weather all of these remain permanent is anyones guess but those names include, Stone Cold Steve Austin, Shawn Michaels, Batista, Edge and Kurt Angle. Yes Angle quickly made his way to TNA but it was during this time he left WWE.

WWE's Continued Charity Work:

I love how WWE is always getting bashed in the mainstream media whenever something bad happens but they are never praised for all the good that they do unless its just a small blurb somewhere. Their annual Tribute To The Troops show is a great example of how WWE reaches out to all of those that put their lives on the line so the rest of us can have a free world, I realize I'm Canadian but we have troops stationed in Iraq and Afghanistan as well so it hits home for me as well. Also lets not forget about all the good for they do for Make A Wish. WWE might grant more wishes for Make A Wish then anyone else in history but this is something that seems to be glossed over, as far as I'm concerned there is nothing better then granting the wish of a sick child and they should be praised for this much more then they are.

The Rise And Fall of The Women's Division:

There isn't a whole lot that could be said about this one. At the start of this period the Womens Division was better then it had ever been in the companies history, now ten years later its at an all time low. A real shame.

WWE Studios:

WWE got in the movie business during this time and after some initial, very limited, success in theaters they have since made all of these projects direct to DVD.

Also just for fun I thought I would make a list of the Champions in WWE at the time of the name change:

WWF Undisputed Champion: Hulk Hogan. Its pretty fitting in my opinion that the final person to be called The WWF Champion was Hulk Hogan, there is just something right about that. These days Hogan is in TNA trying to but ultimately doing nothing to improve that product.
WWF Intercontinental Champion: Eddie Guerrero.
WWF World Tag Team Champion: Billy & Chuck
WWF Crusierweight Champion: The Hurricane
WWF Women's Champion: Jazz
WWF European Champion: Spike Dudley
WWF Hardcore Champion: Steven Richards (Who was in the middle of a huge two day title reign!)

And that's all I got for you. So that was the biggest news in the last ten years in WWE (In my opinion) and here's to the next ten.

The 2012 Stanley Cup Playoffs Conference Semi-Finals

Well the first round of the 2012 Stanley Cup playoffs are over and the field has been reduced to only eight teams and boy who could of seen the outcomes that we have seen here. I'll be the first to admit that my predictions were way off. My favorite team to win the Stanley Cup itself, The Pittsburgh Penguins were defeated in six games and The President Trophy winner Vancouver Canucks were beaten by the Los Angeles Kings in only five. Lets go over all of my predictions and what the actual outcomes were.

The Eastern Division:

(1) New York Rangers vs. (8) Ottawa Senators
My Prediction: New York Rangers win in 4 games.
The Outcome: New York Rangers win in 7 games.

(2) Boston Bruins vs. (7) Washington Capitals
My Prediction: Boston Bruins in 6 games.
The Outcome: The Washington Capitals win in 7 games.

(3) Florida Panthers vs. (6) New Jersey Devils
My Prediction: New Jersey Devils win in 7 games.
The Outcome:

(4) Pittsburgh Penguins vs. (5) Philadelphia Flyers.
My Prediction: Pittsburgh Penguins win in 5 games.
The Outcome: Philadelphia Flyers win in 6 games.

The Western Division:

(1) Vancouver Canucks vs. (8) Los Angeles Kings
My Prediction: Vancouver Canucks win in 5 games.
The Outcome:  Los Angeles Kings win in 5 games.

(2) St. Louis Blues vs. (7) San Jose Sharks
My Prediction: St. Louis Blues win in 4 games.
The Outcome: St. Louis Blues win in 5 games.

(3) Phoenix Coyotes vs. (6) Chicago Blackhawks
My Prediction: Phoenix Coyotes win in 7 games.
The Outcome: The Phoenix Coyotes win in 6 games.

(4) Nashville Predators vs. (5) Detroit Redwings
My Prediction: Nashville Predators win in 7 games.
The Outcome: Nashville Predators win in 5 games.

Well as you can see by that my predictions I guessed five winning teams and only one series outcome, that being New Jersey winning in seven games. That said why waste time lets just jump into The Conference Semi-Finals and see if I do better with my predictions this time around.

The Eastern Division:

(1) New York Rangers vs. (7) Washington Capitals

I'm thinking this might be the best series of the second round. The Rangers just managed to squeak by the Senators. On the other side of things The Capitals just managed to squeak by the Bruins to make it to the second round. The big difference here is that The Rangers were expected to win by pretty much everyone while The Capitals weren't expected to defeat The Bruins, yet they did. I think this has the potential to be a great series and after the hard fought series with the eight seed Senators I don't think that The Rangers will be underestimating the Caps, weather that's enough or not I not so sure, I'm thinking the Capitals will score another upset.

My Prediction: The Washington Capitals in 6 games.

(5) Philadelphia Flyers vs. (6) New Jersey Devils

The Flyers had a most up but also down first round of the playoffs. Sure they knocked off The Pittsburgh Penguins, one of the favorites to win The Stanley Cup, but it wasn't pretty. They showed they could be dominant in that series but with a 10-3 loss they also proved they could be terrible. If the Flyers from the first three games of that series shows up then they will be a hard time to beat. The Devils on the other hand just barely squeaked pass the Panthers in overtime of game seven but one thing they always have going for them is Martin Brodeur he may not be the Goaltender that he used to be but he is still one of the best in the league and can keep his team in game. The one main things The Devils have to worry about is the penalties which is what almost did them in again The Panthers. As far as I'm concerned though I think that The Flyers have this one in the bag.

My Prediction: The Philadelphia Flyers in 6 games.

The Western Division:

(2) St. Louis Blues vs. (8) Los Angeles Kings

The Blues have been solid all year round and unlike most of the seasons best teams in the opening round of the playoffs The Blues were able to bring that momentum into the playoffs. That said The Kings have quite a bit of momentum after knocking off the NHL's number one regular season team in just as many games as it took The Blues to beat the Sharks. The Blues did what was expected of them The Kings surprised everyone when hardly anyone gave them a chance. At the end though this series is one that will come down to goal tending and although Johnathan Quick has been amazing I have to go with Brian Elliot.

My Prediction: The St. Louis Blues in 6 games.

(3) Phoenix Coyotes vs. (4) Nashville Predators

This is a series between two teams that have really come into their own this year. The Coyotes franchise defeated The Blackhawks to advance to the second round of the playoffs for the first time in twenty-five years. The Predators have been rolling though, despite the fact that they were favored to defeat The Detroit Red Wings in the last round, a huge statement on how good they are in the first place, no one thought that they would eliminate The Red Wings in only five games. In the end its a nice story for The Coyotes but The Predators are writing their own book this year and that book includes them eliminating The Coyotes.

My Prediction: The Nashville Predators in 5 games.

Well we saw how well I fared in the last round so my predictions really mean nothing but its always fun to do so lets see what happens this time round. I'm sure we have some good hockey coming our way.

As for my prediction on the Stanley Cup finals now that The Penguins have been eliminated? Now I say The Nashville Predators will defeat The Philadelphia Flyers in seven games.

Video Game Review: Walking Dead The Game - Episode 1

Like anyone else out there who has come across the property weather from comics or TV I am a big fan of The Walking Dead and why not? So far it seems as if they could do no wrong. When I first heard about the game though I was a bit skeptical. I didn't think they would be able to pull it off. So when the game showed up on in the PSN store Tuesday I was quite pleased to see that it was there in a episodic way, with the first episode available for only $4.99. I was even more happy to see the free demo. Sold.

After downloading the demo I was impressed with it enough to say ok, that's not bad, not great, but not bad. It was good enough to pay the low price of $4.99 to give it a real shot at least. So how was the rest of it?

Well much like anything else Walking Dead related the game is VERY character driven with the zombies just hanging around in the background and far from the main focus.

The game is for all intents and purposes a point and click style game so if that's not for you then you might want to try the demo before purchase. Personally I don't really care for them but being the Walking Dead sucker I am looked past that. The game play is very much like The Jurassic Park game that was released last year, which was also released by Telltale Games. This game though plays much smoother and does a much better job keeping the gamer engaged despite a lack of action. Usually I'm not a fan of the point and click style of game play at all but here I think it works great.

Speaking of the lack of action with this being the first episode of the game, which will have five episodes when all is said and done, I think its fair to expect that most of the action will come later in the game.

As you talk to characters throughout the game you can say different things to them, changing how the other people think of you and the outcome of the game going further which is always a nice feature.

Speaking of the characters in the game I think it was a very smart move by the creators to focus on some new characters, namely a man named Lee Everett who is the only playable character and a little girl named Clementine, who Lee meets at the start of the game and protects. Despite the fact that you play as a new character and your group is composed of new characters there are still some familiar faces, named Hershel and Glen with Glen being the only character from the comic that is in your group at least in this episode anyways.

The look of the game was one of the biggest concerns for me at first when I found out that it was going to be a downloadable game but when I fired up the demo all of those concerns went away. The look of the game is clearly inspired from the comic which is great, the only real difference between the comics artwork and the games graphics is the fact that the game is in color instead of black & white.

The only thing that I didn't like about this game, since I can't say I disliked the point and click here, was the fact that you only get one and a half to two hours of game play, but even that can only be a nitpick since its one part in a series that will have five parts so in the end you will probably be looking at around ten hours of game play or more and really at $4.99 you can't really complain.

When I finished this episode of the game I thought it was alright but while writing this review I realized I liked it much better then I had thought I did. I was going to score it with a 5 out of then but after writing this one I gotta give it a 7 out of 10. It isn't great but like all things Walking Dead it left me wanting more and I have no reason to believe that the future episodes won't be better.

The R.G. Mystery Has Been Solved

In my last post earlier today about Sci-Fi On The Rock I spoke of a gentleman I got a couple of great sketches from who's name I didn't get (completely my fault) who's initials were R.G. Well thanks to Jay Paulin (Ink'd Well Comics) the mystery has been solved! His name is Rayne Gallows and whats more he also has his own blog on blogspot which can be found here. I'm already following it and I suggest you do as well.

Sci-Fi On The Rock

For those of you who don't know, which might just be anyone outside of Newfoundland, Sci-Fi On The Rock is the local annual Sci-Fi convention. I went last Saturday and had a pretty good time which was a little surprising when I compare it to last years.

Its not that I dislike any of the greatness that goes on there, quite the opposite I love the stuff, walking around seeing people all dressed up as famous characters, well famous anime characters who I mostly don't know and Furrys, is fun, yet despite that I didn't see a single Spider-Man, Batman or Joker? What the hell is up with that? Naturally we have all the vendors and merchandise peddlers selling off all of their goods in flea market fashion, well that is if every table at a flea market was amazing. Yet despite the tons of comics, toys, fun shirts and hoodies, and other great novelties the only thing I bought there was a Empire Strikes Back glass that was sold by Burger King waaaay back in 1980, a long, long time ago for sure but Burger King suggests it was at the very least the same galaxy.

The main reason I had the a lot more fun this year however is because this year the downstairs area was made into an artists alley type of deal with local artists and the like, I bought two awesome sketches one of Darth Vader the other Spider-Man, regrettably I didn't even think to get the gentleman's name who drew them but I know his initials are R.G. at the very least.

The real draw of all of this talent however was meeting another gentleman named Jay Paulin who is the man behind Ink'd Well Comics, if you don't know about them then I highly suggest you check out the official website here. We talked for about 10-15 minutes about everything from his comics to the fact that beards rule. Jay was a very nice and down to earth guy who you can tell really loves what he does which says only good things about the future of Ink'd Well Comics. Hopefully I have made a new friend in Jay who I hope to keep in touch with if for no other reason then the fact that I have been inspired to get back to drawing and writing because of him.

Overall Sci-Fi On The Rock seems to get better and better every year. (Even if I have only been to this one and last years) Everyone was having fun and I think its nice to see a place where people who might of in the past been made fun of for their love of sci-fi, comics, anime or what have you are able to really let their guards down and be themselves. That itself is worth the price of admission.

As for the awesome things I bought what kind of person would I be if I didn't share them with you. The photo below is my small but very sweet swag, or at least the stuff that I paid for.
